Montessori at the Park is located at Rancho Santa Margarita and is a pre-school and kindergarten for children between the ages of twelve weeks and six years.
Montessori at the Park offers an encouraging atmosphere where the children can satisfy their curious nature by using hands on material in their learning process. Each of the classrooms is environmentally friendly towards promoting personal development and self confidence.
The Montessori Method of learning was founded by the first female medical doctor in Italy, namely Dr Maria Montessori who, following her observations of children discovered that a child learns best by being allowed to explore with materials which are a part of his prepared environment, at the same time as using his senses. The method allows children to learn at their own speed and gives the opportunity to be successful and reach their full potential.
The philosophy of the school is to teach in a prepared environment which adequately meets the needs of the children and presents them with challenges.
Here is a selection of the varied content of the programs.
• Practical life exercises, for example getting dressed, fastening shoe laces or buckles.
• Sensorial skills such as hearing, touch, vision, smell, taste and awareness, alongside the aptitude to tell apart different shapes and sizes.
• Language is the heart of the child's development because this allows him to speak with others and understand their responses. The classroom environment of story-telling enhances the child's vocabulary and writing skills.
• Mathematical exercises are carried out using such materials as beads and rods, enabling the child to count, add up, subtract and compare.
